Anwar Arafat

Senior Instructor / Research Fellow

Anwar Arafat is a Senior Instructor and Researcher at Sapience Institute US, where he contributes to teaching, research, and public education initiatives focused on Islamic theology, worldview analysis, and contemporary intellectual challenges.

Anwar received his religious education through studies undertaken both locally and abroad. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies and later completed a Master’s degree in Islamic Leadership from the Islamic Seminary of America in Dallas, Texas.

Alongside his academic training, Anwar has served as an Imam at masjids in Utah and Tennessee, where he was actively engaged in teaching, khutbah delivery, pastoral care, and community development. His years of congregational leadership continue to inform his ability to address theological and intellectual issues with both scholarly rigor and pastoral sensitivity.

Prior to joining Sapience Institute US, Anwar worked with iERA, contributing to Islamic education, research, and public-facing engagement around questions of belief, faith, and modern challenges to religion. In addition, he serves as Director of Transformation at Insight, where he focuses on organizational development, leadership formation, and mission-driven transformation within the American Muslim nonprofit sector.

At Sapience Institute US, Anwar’s work bridges scholarship and public discourse—equipping audiences with intellectually rigorous and spiritually grounded frameworks for understanding Islam and engaging thoughtfully with contemporary religious and ideological debates.
